Holocaust Dates

January 30th, 1933

Adolf Hitler is appointed Chancellor of Germany by president Von Hindenburg.

February 27th, 1933

The Nazis proceed to burn down a building that holds the "Seat of German government". This building was called the Reichstag building. They did this in order to create an atmosphere of danger and a false sense of threat. The next day, Adolf Hitler was given emergency powers. 

March 22nd, 1933

The Nazis opens the Dachau concentration camp near Munich. This is followed by Buchenwald near Weimar in central Germany, Sachsenhausen near Berlin in Northern Germany, and Ravensbruck. German Parliament passes the "Enabling Act" giving Adolf Hitler dictatorial powers.

April 1st, 1933

The Nazis stage a boycott telling everyone to restrict themselves from buying things in Jewish stores and businesses. 

May 10th, 1933

There is a public burning of books written by Jews and/or books not approved by state.

August 2nd, 1934

German president Von Hindeburg dies and Adolf Hitler is appointed Fuhrer.

August 19, 1934

Adolf Hitler recieves a 90% "YES" vote supporting his new powers.

September 15th, 1934

The "Nuremberg Law" is born. This is the first Anti-Jewish law passed. It states that Jews could no longer be German citizens and can not wave the German flag.

November 15th, 1934

Germany defines a "Jew" as anyone with 2 or more Jewish grandparents.
